“Ask Bob” isn’t just the title of this column. I’m Bob, and I really do encourage you to ask for help when you run into a tough data analysis problem in Excel.

This month’s spreadsheet shows a method that I used to help a student in a Microsoft Excel newsgroup.

Call me a geek if you want; sometimes I go to the newsgroups looking for a complex problem for “relaxation.” If I’m happy helping complete strangers, you can be sure I’m glad to help clients and friends of SRA.

Speaking of newsgroups, the Microsoft Office newsgroups are excellent resources if you need help with program functions. There are almost always a few experts watching to make sure your questions are answered correctly. The newsgroups are available here.

The linked spreadsheet demonstrates a step for solving an automatic car assignment problem for a taxi/limo service. One requirement is that the driver should be assigned the same car she last used.

Here's the spreadsheet, and don't forget: Ask me for help if you need to! ‡
